Summer Mix – Volume 1 – Download
Let me preface this mix with some background. If you know me, know how I function, know how I choose to conduct my social life, you know that I like to party in a specific order. I don’t like to rush into drinking. It’s a process for me. I tend to start drinking early; my pregame has been known to last seven or eight hours and end around 11pm. Then we go downtown and cause a scene. In Iowa City, drinking is expensive, bars are expensive, peer pressure is expensive. Because of this, starting to drink early at my apartment and then not having to buy as much downtown, I’m only being economical. Call me fiscally responsible (Bob Bean would not agree with this rationale). So with all that said, my pregames tend to start off relatively chill, and the more pulls of Admiral Nelson’s I take, the more A.D.D I get with music choices and the more I want to bro dance and jam out to some EDM/Electro/Remix type gems.
This mix is for those first part of the pregame: the part when all of the bros are casually drinking, playing FIFA and discussing where they want to go downtown for the night. It’s for the girls when they are in the middle of getting ready, taking the occasional shot, and acting as if the guys actually care what pair of heels she should be wearing.
If you let this mix play, it starts off with some more indie/pop/relaxed stuff that you still are willing to drink to. It progresses into some hip-hop/pop to get you more pumped, and eventually gets more EDM tracks that are precursors for what you’d hear at a club. Just the right transitions to signal the night should start picking up and more pulls of Admiral Nelson’s should be ripped.
A lot of this music has been posted here on the site in recent months, but having a whole playlist of gems doesn’t hurt anyone. And trust me, there are new songs on here as well that are not necessarily the ETM standard.
And one last thing, shouts and high fives to our very own, Brittany, for doing the artwork. I’m a fan. So if any of you see her, let her you know you appreciate her talents as well and maybe get her a bottle of Moscato.

Here it is, everybody: The Late Night Driving Mix Part I.
I’ve been attempting to craft this one for quite some time now, and I can proudly say that it’s finished. The idea first came about a few months ago and it’s taken a long time to get all the pieces together.
What is the Late Night Driving Mix anyway? Well, back in high school, one of my best buddies and I were driving home with some people after a party or something and he put on Cities 97, which is an indie/alternative/chill type of radio station in the Twin Cities area. Someone in the car wanted us to put on some Top 40 rap, but my buddy said no because it was too late for that type of music. I definitely agreed with him. Since then, I have always had songs on my iPod that only get played when I’m driving late at night. These are songs that I don’t listen to as much during the day, or for pregames/parties, because they are a lot softer, usually slower, and many times sadder than other music. This is the type of music that let’s me think in a deeper manner and actually contemplate life.
With that said, some of this music has been posted on the site before, but there is still a fair amount that you guys probably haven’t heard of before, or wouldn’t think to play on a regular basis. Plus it helps to have it all in one playlist for convenience and efficient shuffling while driving.
I want to highlight a few of my favorite songs, and ones that I have been saving in this playlist instead of posting individually on The Throne. The download links are after the jump, but you should download the whole mixtape as well.

I’m continuing two themes tonight. One: posting mixes to accompany artist releases. Two: getting that mix up late. I have been swamped with homework and my 21st birthday festivities so it’s taken awhile to get to this. Anyway, as you may have heard, Lil Wayne recently released an album titled Tha Carter IV. While I am not the biggest fan of that project I will admit that when has been known to drop some bars in the past. It turns you guys were fans of the Jay-Z and Kanye West mix so we’re back with another mix to coincide with The Game releasing the R.E.D. Album yesterday in stores and on iTunes. Now some of you may think that I hate the Game (No pun intended) because of my recent post but the truth is I used to love his music until he started falling off a bit. Ever since I started this site this type of Bean Mix has been something I have wanted to do but just never got around to. Although this one is tad bit late the album needed to settle anyway before a mix like this could be posted. So, without further adieu, I present to you the Kanye West & Jay-Z Bean Mix.
The original idea was to drop a mix of music that you probably hadn’t heard whenever a big name artist dropped an album. I had plans for Wiz Khalifa, Snoop Dogg and Big Sean earlier this year and all came and went. Finally I got around to making one for Kanye West and Jay-Z to correspond with their latest project, Watch the Throne. Most of these cuts are mixtape tracks, freestyles, unreleased material and remixes. This mix is special because it shows a different side of the two musical icons. Today their music is very cinematic, especially Kanye’s, and this shows a rougher, more raw side to their catalogs.
