I know I wasn’t the only one looking forward to Monday willing to increase my dislike for Monday, because of it being the drop date for this first track from Rocky’s upcoming LongLiveASAP (July release). Hit-Boy producing a Rocky track? That had fire written all over it before we even heard it. I have to say this track does a pretty good job of living up to the hype. More than anything I’m happy to hear that it clearly wasn’t designed to get radio spins. I’ve got zero problems with songs getting radio play (there are some very good songs on the radio you hipsters, they just get played to death unfortunately) but I do have a strong disliking for songs that are specifically tailored for spins and sacrifice the artist’s sound to get there.
Rocky brings in his H-Town influenced sound that we all know him for, which I realize is a bit polarizing for some people. To me it is merely a reflection of the fact that music is becoming more wide spread. People in Harlem listen to and study DJ Screw. People in the Midwest listen to Kendrick Lamar. The internet has changed the times, and while some people have taken issue with that, I view it as a fairly normal progression, that hopefully with further the development of all types of hip-hop, if not music as a whole.
If you’re a fan, look for this track on iTunes come tomorrow.
The ASAP Mob (Including the “Pretty Muthafucker” himself) took over Cosmic Kev for a 10 minute freestyle session. Roc-a-fella on with Flex it’s not but still something you should check out.
A$AP Rocky collabed with the crew over at Vice to make an official video for the Clams Casino produced Live.Love.A$AP track. Inspiration for the video was drawn from a handful of flicks including Scarface, Enter The Dragon, Belly, The Warriors and Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory (aka the greatest movie of all time, check the twit avatar).
So audio from this surfaced a couple days ago and the video showed up last night but I held off on posting due to the fact that Connor and I have completely obliterated this blog with music over the past day and a half. Now that it’s been about 10 hours since the last post, figured I’d hit you with this video real quick.
ASAP Rocky rolls through Flex’s Hot 97 studio and brings ASAP Nast, ASAP Ferg and ASAP Twelvy with him. Gives you a good look at what some of the other fellas in the ASAP Mob are bringing to the table. This one goes on and on, and they swear far too much for the radio, prompting Flex to yell out “watch your language” at one point which I got a kick out of. Gotta say when Nast really gets going, he might have been the most impressive out of all of them, Rocky does his thing too though. Check it out and see what you think.
Good Fella Radio sat down with ASAP Rocky for a quick interview. Rocky touches on the type of artists he’s feeling right now, being from New York and even does a quick intro of some of the other ASAP members. In the handful of interviews I’ve seen with him, he comes across as a pretty straight up guy. His LiveLoveA$AP got a lot of plays on my iPhone (If you missed that, download it here) and I’m definitely looking forward to what emerges next from the ASAP gang.
